Message from the Headteacher Stafford Leys is a school that has undergone some major changes over the last few years. We have added a Year 6 and expanded to take 90 children in every school year. To cope with these changes, we have invested heavily in the classroom environments. The school now has a modern, attractive layout that offers inspiration to our children and staff.
During these changes, our progress data for the new Year 6 children was not where we wanted it to be and an unfortunately timed Ofsted visit has meant that at present, the school is judged as inadequate. We were very disappointed with this judgement and felt it didn’t take into account how our current children were performing.
Our 2 years of data since have been far more positive. We have addressed the poor progress and children left Year 6 in July 2018 above the national average and making expected progress. In maths, the children made more than expected progress. In July 2019 our children were making expected or better progress in all subjects. In maths and GPS tests, our children are performing in the top 5% of schools nationally.
We are striving to be the best school in Leicestershire. For the third year in a row, our attainment data in Year 6 has jumped considerably and we expect to maintain our high standards this school year. We look forward to a second monitoring visit from Ofsted and a chance to show that the school is now at least a good school. We strongly believe that a school should help develop the whole child. Our commitment has always been to Inspire Confidence, Compassion, Character and Fun. Children at Stafford Leys have a wide range of extra-curricular activities to take part in and we encourage children to take on responsibility throughout the school. This includes; House Captains, Sport Leaders, Librarians, Fruit Monitors, Role models, School Council members and our Eco-committee. Behaviour in and out of classrooms is exemplary and everyone who visits or works with our children comments on their positive attitude.
I would encourage anyone thinking about where to send their children to visit our school and see the amazing work that is happening here. Visits can be arranged by contacting the school office.
We are really proud of the changes we have made in school last year. Please feel free to take a look at the School Improvement Plans below for more details about the actions we are taking and the impact they are having across the school. (Please note that these will be updated with 19/20 plans in November 2019)
Some of the changes we've made in school are also detailed in our newsletters. These can be found on the letters page of our website.
